Leavenworth County EMA and Sheriff’s Department operate a Hackney CM2800 Commander that functions as both a mobile communications center and command operations center for the county and surrounding region.
The 28-ft all-aluminum body is mounted on a Freightliner M2 cab/chassis with a 330-hp diesel engine and Allison 6-speed automatic transmission.
The body features the Hackney exclusive Auto-Deploy slide-out room. The over 9-ft wide room is deployed or nested by one person at the press of a single button in less than 5-seconds. In the nested position it provides an overlap seal against the body for water-tight seal. Wiper gaskets and automatic awning keeps it dry with no exterior air penetration in the deployed position. The wipers remove water as it slides back into the nested position thereby keeping the interior dry.
The rear communications center is completely isolated via a pocket door between the forward area and the comms center and features four work stations for routine communications and mobile 9-1-1 center. An emergency exit door is located on the rear inside the comms center. A 42-RU ventilated electronics cabinet provides racking for all the communications and video equipment.
Next to the side entrance door is a full galley that features a wet sink with potable water, cabinet counted refrigerator, microwave oven and coffeemaker.
The interior is cooled using three roof mounted air conditioner units that are plumbed into a central air distribution network. This design allows one, two or all three units to be utilized depending on exterior ambient conditions. It also insures that cooling is available to the entire interior should one of the units fail.
Walls are covered with sound-absorbing carpet that permits a compliment of people to communicate within the interior comfortably.
Generator power is provided by a Kohler 20kw diesel generator. A 100-amp shorepower connection permits auxiliary power from outside sources while a 30-amp shorepower is provided for charging batteries and “night” service while in the standby mode. A 200-ft cord reel is installed in one of the exterior compartments. Scene lighting is provided by four upper body mounted 240VAC flood lights and two removable tripod flood lights.
An Incinolet toilet provides on-site convenience when required. An on-demand water heater is integrated into the potable water system.
130” rails are installed on the left and right sides of the roof for mounting of antennas. Coaxials are routed into the body through a water-proof hatch into raceways that permits easy integration and updating of comms equipment at any time.
Located on the rear is a R-Vision camera that provides surveillance even in very low ambient light conditions. It is mounted on a 30-ft pneumatic tower and incorporates a repeater antenna platform.
