LEAVENWORTH COUNTY – SHERIFF AND EMA
28-ft Command with Slide-out Conference Room
Leavenworth County, as a joint effort between the Sheriff’s Department and the Emergency Management Agency, have added a much needed new resource for responding to regional disasters and logistical support operations. The Hackney Commander 28S mobile command and logistics support vehicle features a stout 28-ft aluminum body mounted on a Freightliner cab/chassis. The vehicle provides a four-man communications center, twelve-man conference center, large galley and toilet facilities.
A 20-kw diesel generator provides ultra-quiet power to three air conditioners, heating units, lighting and the electronics rack. The air conditioner is designed to provide redundancy throughout the entire interior and allows operations of one, two or all three units depending on temperature extremes through an integral ducting system in the ceiling.
The slide-out room is air actuated and smoothly deploys in 5 seconds, all automatically with the press of a button.
The formed aluminum cabinets are self-latching and have anodized trim and powder-coated surfaces. Combined with the solid-surface counter-tops and desk, the interior is easy to clean and sanitize and withstands the rigors of day-to-day use. The walls and ceiling are covered with sound-absorbent carpet. Insulation in the walls, ceiling and floor provides for a very comfortable work environment in cold Kansas winters.
Located on the rear of the body is a 32-ft pneumatic mast with R-Vision camera interconnected to the LCD monitors and recording device.
Wiring access is provided around the circumference of the vehicle via raceways with removable access plate and terminate inside the electronics rack along with ports from the ceiling to work stations. Local integration is fast and simple. The body 12vdc system is fully multiplexed. Perimeter flood lighting is provided for night operations. Toilet facilities include a high capacity Incinolet. 30-gallon water tanks provide potable water with on-demand water heater.
The large galley area features a flush mounted microwave oven and refrigerator. A stainless steel sink with potable hot and cold water is provided for coffee and other needs. Note the vertical electronics rack in the center of the body for central installation of all communications and monitoring equipment. The LCD monitor faces into the conference area.
